The MARS VOLTA returns in epic and unexpected fashion with its sixth album, Noctourniquet, which will be released March 27 by Warner Bros. Records.  The MARS VOLTA is best known for their energy-driven live shows and their incorporation of various genres of music including progressive rock, krautrock, jazz fusion and Latin American music.  In 2009 the band won a Grammy for “Best Hard Rock Performance” for their song “Wax Simulacra”.

In 2010, AIR were asked to create a contemporary musical score for the classic 1902 silent film Le Voyage Dans La Lune by Georges Melies. The film was to be painstakingly restored from a lost copy found in 1993 and fully re-colorized. The producers of the restoration project were aiming to show the film at Cannes Film Festival in 2011 and were keen for new generations of film enthusiasts to enjoy Melies groundbreaking silent movie with the benefit of a brave new musical soundtrack. A huge honor for any French artist, AIR immediately went to work, and their resulting score provided fresh wonders to the restored film, which premiered at Cannes to unanimous acclaim. It was this score that prompted Air to take their ideas one step further and use the name and concept of the film as the basis for their sixth studio album.
